Recently on my sister’s week visit from Iowa, which I posted about here, we visited Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore. What an awesome place! Wish I had more pictures to share, but we must’ve been on mission that did not allow for time to snap pictures…oops.
ReStores can be found in most all major cities and are operated by local Habitat for Humanity chapters. Each one differs in the merchandise and items that they offer, as everything is donated to benefit Habitat for Humanity. In turn, practicing a greener lifestyle by keeping such items out of landfills. The most popular items include those for the home. Kristen and I seen a whole room of doors at the Springfield, IL ReStore location, as well as, gently used sinks, toilets, furniture, lighting, cabinets, housewares etc.
I came across this gem with my sister, and I knew that I had great plans for him in our office.
Here he is in all his glory…
|As you can see, I started sanding on one corner and the finish came off fairly easy.|
I paid a whopping $21.50! Talk about a great deal! That’s my kind of shopping. I benefited even more, as all furniture was 20% off the weekend we visited.
These shelves offer a place to use baskets for storage.
The desk is in great shape…solid and sturdy.
I plan to pair it with IKEA’s Snille Chair in red…thoughts?
All Mr. Desk needs is a little TLC and an inexpensive makeover. Any suggestions?
I came across this DIY-Crackle Paint tutorial over on Make the Best of Things that uses elmer’s glue as the crackle medium and would love to try it. Anyone else tried it before or suggest a different makeover method…staining, painting etc. for my lovely new desk?
